Analysis of playing style across different developmental stages in football

Notational analysis research to date has often overlooked Youth football, predominantly examining First teams in elite competitions. As a result, the current study aims compare performance between U16s, U18s and teams. 3311 final third entries were analysed over course of 45 matches, equally distributed across three age-groups, during 2018–2019 season. The sample consisted 10 U16 teams, 16 U18 found that there significant differences playing styles age groups. experience increases, is tendency more wing than central attacks, forward-diagonal movements, crosses, but fewer shooting opportunities due developments defence abilities. patterns play groups, suggests younger players are independently focused when attempting breakdown their opposition’s defence, with older using space effectively team focused.
